Sillage is an intimate, pop-up, street-theatre experience that examines the traces that stories leave behind. In a secret laneway, buried in the heart of Surry Hills, a woman speaks to a doorway she once knew. Sillage is a rumination on time, loss and memory written by Sophia Davidson Gluyas and performed by Elaine Hudson.
About Sophia Davidson Gluyas
Sophia is a writer, artist, and recreational scholar who has been making art (and making trouble) in different formats for 15 years. In 2015, Sophia was commissioned to write Haunted (Hoey) for the Surry Hills Festival, a site-specific theatre work staged in the doorway of the abandoned Hopetoun Hotel featuring Madeleine Jones and Graeme McRae. The piece was well received, and the team were invited to stage it again at the 2016 Surry Hills Festival alongside her new work Sillage, also a site-specific work staged in McElhone Place, featuring Elaine Hudson. Elaine and Sophia teamed up again to produce Sophia's first full length work; The Bed Party, which premiered at The Old 505 Theatre as part of the 2019 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. The Mardi Gras season was completely sold out and The Bed Party enjoyed a three week encore season at The Old 505 Theatre a month later. Elaine and Sophia are thrilled to return to McElhone Place, to restage Sillage as part of the 2019 Sydney Fringe Festival.
